As students, imagine our horror and blatant disgust upon hearing about the second rate status of Oxford Commas. Ranked by AP stylebooks as unacceptable at best, the poor little commas are reduced to mere fluff, disrespected, (its beautiful use in action!) and ignored!
We here at makingchicagohome.com have had enough of this injustice! And will be the foremost supporters of Oxford Comma rights.
To be used, loved, and appreciated.

The Oxford (or Harvard, to those less anglophile in nature) comma has and has had its day in the sun. While I gently resist the tyranny of AP style guides, the choices made by the Associated Press writers and editors are not without merit. The comma is a simple, svelte creature; pleasing to the eye and the ear, when treated with the proper delicacy and enhanced by a pleasant turn of phrase. I see no reason to ask more of a classic beauty than is absolutely necessary. To use her presumptively and scatter her before my thoughtlessly cast “buts” “ands” and “ors” only cheapens her elegant power and voice.
If one is inclined to take up the cause, why not also offer a full-throated defense of the comma’s disrespected, but curiously alluring cousin, the semi-colon?
