Alright, alright. So I’ve been laying pretty low for a while when it comes to the blog, but can you blame me?! It is summer in Chicago which means I have school full-time AND I am exploring the city, its suburbs and everything this amazing place has to offer.
My blogging stupor had to come to an end, though, when I met one of my favourite clubs in Chicago this weekend: the Funky Buddha Lounge. Not in the mood to rub elbows with hot co-ed mess, or drop $20 on a might-be-as-bad-as-Debonair-Social-Club club (yes, I know I am a girl and can get in for free, but why risk it?!), my friend made a call to FBL where we got on the “list” for free cover. It was easy to do and saved us $40, which in my book, is a win.
This night club/lounge is just perfect for me. First, it is kept icy cold. Sure you might wish you had not donned booty shorts and a backless shirt, but the chilly air is very welcome once the dance floor gets packed and you are breaking it down. Second, the DJ was AMAZING. I am not sure if it was DJ 33 1/3 or not, but whoever it is deserves props. He was spinning stuff from the 90s that re-energised the place with every new song change.
B.I.G.? Check.
Destiny’s Child? Check.
Michael Jackson? Double check.
The only letdown with the music is when he went on a Soulja Boy spinning binge. Blech.
The crowd was mostly female which means less sketchers on the dance floor and more good dancing. The bartenders were friendly and funny and the men who were standing around staring at the women tended to be okay dancers and good-looking.
There was enough seating to rest in between long song sets and all-in-all, I loved this place.
Your thoughts?!
Dev xx
