The mail-order bride

The mail-order bride

Today I mosied on down to 1 E. Delaware to check out Tails in the City’s Halloween for Dogs. Sure, it might be a silly event, but all of the proceeds went to PAWS Chicago and it was a lot of fun. *Sigh* And people say cat people are crazy…

I took some pictures of the best costumes at the parade and thought I would share them with you all.

*WINNER* Funniest Costume

Pupojevich stole the show with his Cook County Jail orange jumpsuit and perfectly coiffed hair.  While there were several Blagojevich look-a-likes, none were quite as decked out as this pup.

There was not just one…or two of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but all four! They came in a little group and although two had to leave before I was able to snap a group pic, I did get two, including Michaelangelo my favourite!

*WINNER* Best Duo

Of course, what dog Halloween parade and costume contest would be complete without a tribute to the late Michael Jackson? For the best duo contest, this lady dressed up like a zombie from Jackson’s Thriller music vid and her dog is the King of Pop. Check out the silver sequined glove on the dog’s front right paw – it looks hand made! Now that is dedication!

This tuxedo-clad, top hat wearin’ dog ordered the bride dog you saw at the top of this post. Too cute or too much? I’ll let you be the judge of that…

So sadly, this pup did not win any prizes despite its very unique and hilarious costume. You all know Tony the Ferrari guy, right? Hailing straight from the Viagra Triangle, Tony is this crazy topless, guitar playing dude who will drive you around Chicago in his Ferrari. The lady in this picture told me that Tony is her “muse” and that she could not resist tipping her hat to him this Halloween. This should have won a prize.

*WINNER* Most Glamourous

Three Pugs in a Tub came late into the judging but they immediately stole the judges’ hearts! And how couldn’t they?! Donning adorable shower caps and sitting in a “tub” of cotton balls, these three wheezing pugs made the crowd ooh and awww.

Maybe not original but certainly still cute is the classic hot dog weiner dog.  This little guy was on his best behaviour all day and definitely had the best hot dog costume of the group.

I leave you now with possibly the best costume, ever. Both timely and simple this costume stole the show and had every journalist in the crowd begging for an interview with the owner. Yes, we can all breathe a sigh of relief knowing that “Balloon Pup” is safe out of harm’s way.

"HONOURABLE MENTION" Balloon Pup

The competition was fierce but make no mistake, dog owners of Chicago did not disappoint at this year’s Tails in the City Halloween Parade. If you have a dog and missed today’s costume contest, never fear. Next Saturday the Chicago Botanic Garden is having a Spooky Pooch Parade from 1 to 3 pm. For two hours dogs will be allowed to frolic in the garden while participating in a costume contest. The prizes are pretty awesome and you can enter to win the category for “Best Horticultural Interpretation”.

Happy Howl-o-ween!!!
