The following pictures/poem is from the State Street Macy’s store in downtown Chicago. The long poem is broken up into nine stanzas, with each stanza etched on the window of the corresponding display. Enjoy!

Christmas approaches, and children begin

writing to Santa how good they’ve been.

Letters heartfelt, hopeful, sincere…

filled with charm and trust and cheer.

But how do those requests and wishes

for puppies and dolls, toys and fishes

whirl their way to the North Pole?

(Hint: Believing speeds your mail to its goal.)

Into the mailbox your letter goes.

Up at the Pole, Santa twitches his nose.

Elves look on, unnoticed, unseen.

Your letter falls into place like a dream.

Down it drifts with your list of good deeds.

Filled with wishes, it gathers speed.

As if through a mirror your letter travels,

and enters a world where logic unravels.

A dreamlike realm where elves come into view.

As envelopes whirl, they grab a few,

checking for who’s been the best little kid.

Who’s been polite? What nice things you did.

At a feverish pace, the mail is inspected.

No letter ignored, no good deed undetected.

Cranking and spinning the endless supply

of letters is sorted with an elf’s eagle eye.

But wait `til you see what happens now.

You’ll “ooh”, you’ll “ahh”. It is quite a WOW!

Amazing! Astounding! A wondrous sight.

Wings grab each letter, holding on tight,

swooping them up with deliberate speed.

A delivery method that’s special, indeed!

Excitement is soaring, belief’s in the air.

So hurry up, children. We’re almost there!

Flocks of letters are readied for landing.

Bursting with wishes, all in good standing.

All systems go. Prepare to touch down.

The mail travels on, Santa Claus-bound.

Remember – Believe and you can’t go wrong.

We’re almost there! It won’t be long…

Never before has this marvel been seen.

A remarkable blend of elf and machine.

Ta da! `Tis the magic of Flight Control,

a wondrous place at the North Pole.

Whirling about, letters dance and spin

as elves very skillfully guide them in.

Our enchanted journey is close to an end.

The letters arrive for the Head Elf to tend.

Your spirit level is metered and weighed,

and I ‘m pleased to say you’ve made the grade~

Kids, have you ever seen so many toys?

A shout-out to Santa. Let’s make some noise!

And now, children, for your viewing pleasure –

the hero of the day! A man without measure!

How jolly he is! See how he beams

at so many letters sent by magic means.

We do hope you’ve enjoyed our flight.

Now please exit to the right.

and always remember joy is yours to receive

when deep in your heart you truly Believe.

Dev xx
