TRIBULATION: The Rosenwald Apartments, 1929, 4618-4646 S. Michigan Blvd.
Still in limbo, Ernest Grunsfeld’s apartment complex provided decent, middle-class housing for the African-American community. Joe Louis, Nat King Cole and Gwendolyn Brooks all lived in the Rosenwald Apartments in their hay-day. Now they sit vacant and deteriorating. The Urban Land Institute is trying to decide what will be done with the building.
