Are you still waiting for your Time Out Chicago mag to arrive in the mail this afternoon before you plan your weekend? Get a jump start and see what I have planned…

THURSDAY:

The beautiful, talented ladies of Vaudezilla present a free Bartop Burleque Show at Blue Bayou Bar & Grill. Located at 3734 N. Southport Ave., the Blue Bayou will charge no cover and have $4 drink specials available to you as you are entertained by bartop singers, dancers and performers.

Vaudezilla gals will start entertaining promptly at 10pm, giving you plenty of time to feast on authentic New Orleans cuisine (mmm, gumbo). Look out for local performers who will join the ladies for the festivities!

FRIDAY:

Sign up for the Chicago Fashion Week mailing list.

It saddens me to hear people say that Chicago is not a fashion-conscious city when it clearly has passionate designers, hair stylists, makeup artists and models who are all rooting for a Chicago Fashion Week. Under new direction, CFW is being planned and hopes to have more news soon. For now, this is all I could get as an official statement:

By combining fashion and  beauty on the runway & fusing it with the spirit of Chicago and a creative consciousness, the NEW Chicago Fashion Week™ (CFW) is redefining what it means to be fashionable. Under new management, CFW is being carefully positioned as a platform for both emerging and established fashion & accessory designers, makeup artists, hairstylists and supporting partners to share their creative vision and bring a new level of creative consciousness to the industry.

If you’re like me and try to avoid St. Patrick’s Day madness like it’s your job, then celebrate the Irish early by doing something truly, well, Irish. Head over to the historic Fado Irish pub for bangers and mash (sausages and mashed potatoes),  a pint of Smithwick’s and some Magners rugby (rugby is on from 1-5pm).

If you miss the rugby, never fear! The Michael Heaton Band will take the stage at 10pm (no cover!) and wow you with upbeat Americana music that will have you rockin’ and rollin’ all night long. Please, just don’t wear one of those ridiculous shamrock top hats and a tee-shirt that reads, Kiss Me Rock Hard Blarney Stone. *Sigh*

SATURDAY:

CHIDITAROD is the Chicago event you do not want to miss. It is described as “the annual Chicago-based phenomenon that combines elements of the Alaskan Iditarod with Chicago’s finest brand of debaucherous social activism.  One part food drive, one part pub-crawl, one part costumed race, all parts radtacular.” So obviously you have to be there.

There is still time to sign up for a volunteer position on the day of the race, bring food donations to the race and to cheer on your favourite team. All food collected during the race goes to helping out the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation. Last year over 7,000 lbs. were donated. Amazing!

The race will start at 12 noon at the intersection of Wolcott and Hubbard.

After you see off your favourite Chiditarod teams, head over to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont to look at revamped and custom cars at the World of Wheels auto show.

Take in  streetbike stunt shows, fashion shows, karaoke competitions and of course lots of beautiful muscle cars at this event that is great for families or for people who want to do something new.

SUNDAY:

Stay in bed and rest.
