It’s Thursday! And in case you are wondering what the heck to do tonight other than sit at that same bar you do every night with your buddies, kickin’ back Old Style, may I suggest attending a magic show? (Don’t worry, you can still drink alcohol at the show!)

Ain't he cute?! His perfectly coiffed hair, clear complexion and thick, nerdy glasses made me instantly swoon, even before I saw the show in its entirety!
Because tonight at 8 pm, at Gorilla Tango Theatre a fabulously engaging, highly entertaining magician will be ready to amaze you with fun tricks and dirty jokes. Edd Fairman, the magician who runs this show, was voted “Magician of the Year” by the Chicago Wizard’s Club, and for good reason: His show will make you rethink the simplicity of some of the most classic tricks in the book.
Hey y’all! Are you a male comedian who is just itching for a shot at being on television? Now (more like on March 23) is your chance!
Spike TV is launching a nationwide search to find undiscovered comedic talent for a new late-night talk show, which is being developed and produced by Thom Beers of Original Productions (“The Deadliest Catch,” “Ice Road Truckers,” “Ax Men,” and “Monster Garage.”)
According to the press release, the new late-night show will differ from others because it will seek out ordinary people doing extraordinary things! The host (that’s you!) will be new comedic talent who mirrors the regular, everyday dudes the show will target.
Beers described his perfect host as a “laid back guy with whom every dude wants to be friends. He drinks beer, loves sports, video games and is unassuming and approachable.”
Is it you??

173 years ago, Chicago was born. Today, on the city’s birthday, people came together at the Chicago History Museum to celebrate the diverse neigbourhoods and rich history that make Chicago the best city in the United States!
Mayor Daley talked about how “the past, present and future [of Chicago] will always be immigrants” and how in celebrating the birthday of Chicago, we are really celebrating the “history of our families”.
The crown jewel of the birthday ceremony was, of course, the gorgeous cake designed by Bleeding Heart Bakery. It featured the State Street Marshall Field clock, the Sears Tower, the old Water Tower, the John Hancock building, the Chicago Theatre sign and Chicago’s flag draped around the whole cake.
We want to know: Is there a restaurant in Chicago that you are dying to go to, but haven’t yet?
In case you were wondering, NAHA was that restaurant for me. Last summer when I started volunteering at Green City Market, I learned about Chef Carrie Nahabedian through new acquaintances. Everyone praised both her exciting, local, delicious food and her very sweet demeanor. Then people went on and on about NAHA, this restaurant that seemed to be on everyone’s “Favourites” list.

Standing, in the back: Chef Carrie Nahabedian on the left, Chef Rick Bayless on the right at Chefs Collaborative
When Chefs Collaborative came to Chicago for their National Summit last year, I had the pleasure to dine with them at Cafe Brauer at the Lincoln Park and taste Chef Nahabedian’s food for the first time. Needless to say, I was smitten.
When Restaurant Week was announced and NAHA was on the participant list, I decided I was tired of waiting. Restaurant Week or not, NAHA is a place you must, must go to if you want some of the best food in the city.
You only have four more days of Restaurant Week left, so if you still have not been anywhere, you need to get on the move! If you are the kind of person who does not like taking a chance on a restaurant (and there are over 170 restaurants to choose from this year), then let me help.
If you like big portions; organic and local ingredients; and crave French comfort food in a beautiful atmosphere, may I suggest Bistro Campagne?
Here’s what to order off of the Restaurant Week menu:
FIRST COURSE: Skip the fresh but bland house salad and go straight for the Strudel à l’Oignon Caramélisé. The sweet, earthy caramelised onions appear both on the bottom of the strudel and in a tasty sauce around it. The flaky, buttery pastry and the soft, salty cheese complement each other perfectly for a well-rounded dish that will make you want to clear your plate (and even lap up the sauce!).
Did you know that one year ago Making Chicago Home debuted its first post? That’s right! Today Making Chicago Home turns one year old, and I could not be more proud of my baby blog!
Creating and maintaining a blog is not easy. Andrew Sullivan sets the bar high with a team of people who blog around the clock about everything from politics to music, and he attracts more readers that 20 people could shake 20 sticks at.
And although I can only dream that Making Chicago Home will one day be a blog rockstar, I am so happy for having my readers: whether they be regulars or once-in-a-lifetime drop-ins who just want to learn a little something about the most fabulous Chicago.
Chinese New Year was a blast and to commemorate the amazing day, I put together an audio slide show! Enjoy!!
Some pictures are much bigger than the frame allows, but you can scroll up and down on the frame by simply moving your cursor up or down!!!

I used to think that the best thing about Valentine’s Day was that boxes of Godiva chocolates would go 1/2 price the day after. That was until I moved to Chicago.
The Windy City and its diverse inhabitants are great at making special days into special weekends and having something available for everyone.
This is what I am doing for V-day weekend:
FRIDAY:
8 pm, “Schtick With Us: A Vaudeville Burlesque” at Skokie Theatre
Question: What is sexier than celebrating a weekend of love by watching a burlesque show?
Answer: Absolutely. nothing. :o)
Chicago-hot-dog-vendor-turned-burlesque-force-of-nature, Red Hot Annie leads an all-burlesque-star cast in this Vaudeville-inspired burlesque show. You can watch boys and girls shake their tail feathers while laughing along with the titillating performance!
Bonus points: Take your sweetie to Duffy’s Cocktail Lounge (aka Skokie’s oldest bar!) for drinks before the show.
If you still don’t have plans tonight and you want to keep it cheap, the Broke Hipster has just the answer: a party celebrating their article in the ‘Cheap’ Issue of Chicago TimeOut magazine!
From 9pm to 2am at the Red Canary Lounge you can expect the following:
9-10p: Live Jazz Band
10-11: DJ Hilary Rawk (http://www.soundcloud.com/HilaryRawk)
